Syntax
prose has nine blocks. That is the whole language.
Each one has a page here, and the pages are meant to be read in order. ClockworkVillage starts as a single line and grows by one construct at a time, so nothing you have already read changes underneath you.
Every page has the same shape: the construct as it appears in the village, what it is, where it can live, how names find it, how it breaks, and what was decided about it. Land on any page cold and it still answers those six things. Where the universe has nothing for a section, the section is left out.
By the last page the village has places, things, people, connections, a pairing, and a workshop with an apostrophe in its name. Every line of it was added by one of these blocks, and nothing added later moved anything added earlier.
The blocks
- Universe — The universe block must exist in every universe.
- Describe — A describe block lets an author add meaning to any concept, dimension, or relationship in their universe.
- Comment — A comment is a note for whoever edits the file next.
- Concept — Concepts are the nouns of a universe.
- Dimension — Dimensions are kinds.
- Relationship — A relationship names how two things connect.
- Relationships — A relationships block records the connections a concept or dimension actually has.
- Relates — A relates block is a pairing worth describing on its own.
- Title — A title records a fuller wording beside a concept's name.
What this list leaves out
Only blocks whose maturity is Stable have a page. The universe also records Document (Candidate), EdgeBlock (Experimental), Expects (Candidate) and RelationshipSide (Experimental).
How this list is made
Every page is generated from the universe. The list follows the reading order the universe records: each block says which block it follows, and the list starts at the block that follows nothing. Headings are the names exactly as the universe spells them. How it breaks lists the errors a block can cause, and Decided in lists every record that affects it. Everything between the maturity line and How it breaks is the block's own card, copied as written from where sprig observe last found it.
